This series consists mainly of the various records that were generated as a result of lawsuits that were brought before county and circuit courts against debtors. Included are court bills of costs, records of indebtedness to the Branch Bank at Huntsville, lists of court clerk's fees, notices to sheriffs to bring the Branch Bank's debtors before the county or circuit court, notices from courts of the seizure of land and slaves from the Branch Bank's debtors, notices of failure to pay installments on debts, and subpoenas. Also included are a bill of sale of slaves, lists of supplies and costs, protest against the Branch Bank, land deeds (indentures), loan applications, promissory notes, and other related records which depict the function of the Branch Bank at Huntsville.
